Album review: D-A-D – A Prayer For The Loud

D-A-D - A Prayer For The Loud

AFM Records [Release date 31.05.19]

D-A-D are a band whose sound is instantly recognisable and are consistent in the quality of their albums, and I have always been surprised that they have not received the success and recognition that they deserve. Now the Danish band are about to release “A Prayer For the Loud”, their twelfth studio album, and the first in eight years.

The album has a rich and textured feel to it and the production work from Nick Foss and Rune Nissen Petersen is second to none and nicely accentuates the band’s unfaltering sense of melody. Tracks such as “The Sky Is Made of Blues” and “A Drug for The Heart” have an earthy and more organic feel to them, the latter ballad featuring a superb acoustic opening whilst the former reminds me of the band’s 2002 “Soft Dogs” album.

Title track “A Prayer For The Loud” is also reminiscent of an earlier album, this time “Riskin’ It All” from 1991, and tracks like “No Doubt About It”, “Happy Days In Hell” and lead single “Burning Star” are typically D-A-D sounding, and exactly what you would expect. Amongst the album’s eleven tracks on the album there is not a weak moment, whether it be the raw energy of “Musical Chairs”, the heavier, bassier “Time Is A Train” or the massive sounding “If The World Just”, a deeper, almost reflective piece of work that brings the whole thing to a close.

“A Prayer For The Loud” is a welcome return for D-A-D and hopefully the band will tour extensively in support of it. *****
