Bulletproof 20/20 Records [Release date 14.02.20]
This is the second album from County Tyrone southern tinged rockers Blackwater Conspiracy following on from their 2017 debut ‘Shootin’ The Breeze’ and it is a bit of a cracker. The band master in country tinged rock with big riffs and anthemic songs throughout.
Opener ‘Goodbye To Yesterday’ sets the scene with a bombastic drum intro giving way to a down and dirty guitar sound cranking out a huge riff before the vocals of Phil Conalane cut through with great effect. ‘All Wired Wrong’ follows and this track has been picking up quite a bit of radio airplay of late. This track is slightly more laid back but contains good harmonies and a killer chorus.
‘Soul Revolutionaries’ showcases the guitar talents of Phil Conalane and Brian Malone as does the swaggering ‘Take It On The Chin’. It’s not all loud and raucous though and the guys know how to pull at the heartstrings with songs like ’In Another Lifetime’ and the album highlight for me, the epic ‘Bird In A Coalmine’.
‘She Gets Me High’ is as smooth as a shot of Baileys and contains probably the finest vocal performance of the album whilst the rocking ‘Atlanta Smile’ rounds off the album in fine style.
Some bands find the second album a difficult one that often disappoints but not so here. Blackwater Conspiracy have produced a polished album full of quality tracks which hook you in and demand repeat listens. Sounds like 2020 could be a busy year for the guys and I for one am keen to see them live somewhere soon. ****
