EP review: GALLOWS CIRCUS – II
Facebook [Release date 25.09.20]
Kent based Gallows Circus are a relatively new band, having formed in 2016. The line-up consist of vocalist Ian Day, bassist Richard Tunbridge, guitarist Ben Attwood and drummer Steve Kitchener.
Six songs on the EP, although ‘Hell’s Whiskey’ appears twice with a radio edit version added. This song is a belter, from the chugging riff through to the vocal harmonies, the band have hit pay dirt here. The stomping blues rocker ‘Medicine Man’ is surely another single to be lifted off the EP. Memorable chorus and made for airplay/playlists.
Despite doubtless appeaking to the new wave of classic rock crowd, Gallows Circus have a bit of grunge and even 90’s rockers Reef about them when listening to ‘Bring Your Crucifix’ and ‘Who Cares’. Whereas ‘Hunt You Down’ takes a Tesla/the Answer route – little bit acoustic, little bit southern and a whole lot of good.
Gallows Circus have the tunes, now we just need a chance for them to strut their stuff live. In the meantime grab your copy of ‘II’, you are in for a treat. ****
