Album review: JESSICA LYNN – Lone Rider
Website [Release date 09.09.22]
Finally Jessica Lynn gets to release her much anticipated debut album. As Jessica says – “Lone Rider is the accumulation of two years of hard work. After losing a 100-city, 15-country world tour over the past few years, repeatedly — due to pandemic restrictions, creating this record was the biggest passion project I’ve ever taken on.
A collection of stories of my life…this record speaks volumes about me as a person through the lens of country, rock, blues, soul, and pop. I have been waiting a long time to share it and am so excited that this day is finally here!”
Despite the recent touring setbacks Jessica Lynn has managed to share a stage with the likes of Richard Marx, Keith Urban and Loretta Lynn. Her band is a family affair with her dad on bass, mum on backing vocals and husband on lead guitar. Musically the album is top notch with a special mention to the pedal steel playing of Bob Riedel. His playing gives a classic country flavour to songs like the title track and ‘Better Than That’.
We’ve had a few songs released prior to this album including ‘Better Than That’, a perfect example of a country pop crossover song and hit. Easy on the ears with an impressive vocal and production.
‘Run To’ has also been around prior to this album’s release and still has that ‘wow’ factor after repeated plays. The stripped down version of this song is worth tracking down on your preffered streaming service too. Another ‘wow’ moment is the duet ‘You Wouldn’t Know’, a perfectly paced and delivered heartfelt song.
Jessica Lynn shows her southern rock side on ‘Love Me That Way’, complete with a tasty guitar solo and bar room style piano. ‘Worth It’ with its layered backing vocals and catchy chorus make it another crossover hit in waiting.
A finer collection of modern country pop and rock tunes you’ll be hard pressed to beat this year. Let’s hope Jessica Lynn finally gets to tour the UK next year. ****
