Single review: LETITIA GEORGE – Don’t Stop Me From Loving You

LETITIA GEORGE – Don’t Stop Me From Loving You

Jig-Saw Music Ltd  [Release date 19.12.22]

‘Don’t Stop Me From Loving You’ is the kind of climactic outing that might have appealed to Dusty Springfield all those years ago and if nothing else confirms the durability of a soulful ballad.

And yet this isn’t quite the Memphis soul outing you might expect, as the opening couple of bars and a lyrical themes of love, hope and aspiration suggest a blue collar country ballad.

It’s actually a slow burner that has to overcome Letitia’s slightly tentative start, and a very early guitar solo which pushes it towards rock balladry.

However, she digs deep to extend her vocal attack around the 2.37 minute mark and together with the uplifting chorus transforms the song into a soulful tour de force.

Letitia sounds like a versatile singer who could turn her hand to many genres. And given that old school soulful balladry is suddenly back in vogue it might well provide her with commercial opportunities.

A few vocal flutters mean this is not quite the finished product, but her emotive phrasing, the big chorus and strong melody might be enough to court day time radio. ***½
