Earache Records [Release date 03.11.23]
Gypsy Pistoleros are a 4-piece, hailing from Worcester, that have exploded as a ball of energy onto the Rock scene, bringing Flamenco Punk Glam Rock n Roll to the masses. They are now serving up their latest offering in the form of their new album ‘Duende a Go Go Loco!’ which shows an edgier, heavier side of Gypsy Pistoleros, whilst retaining the Flamenco heartbeat, passion and gritty glam punk rock ‘n’ roll.
The Gypsy Pistoleros have always had a reputation for playing live and have toured extensively over the years, with serious rock pedigree they have appeared alongside Motley Crue, Guns n Roses, Poison, ZZ Top, Twisted Sister, Faster Pussycat, Vain, Papa Roach, Whitesnake, Skid Row, Black Label Society.
So with this sort of backstory and reputation what is the album going to deliver? In an nutshell, the songs span styles and decades in the best rock ‘n’ roll tradition with big hooks, attitude, and sleaze. This album will liven up your listening pleasure no end!
Track Review:
1 Duende A Go Go Loco! The impact of the opening track is instantaneous and electric
2 I Got it all – I think this band have – presence, energy, great lyrics and delivery
3 Revolution – this is more than a band, this is a call for a revolution and much needed it is too; shaking up the music world and challenging the status quo.
4 What’s it like to be a Girl? 1970’s inspired glam rock at its very finest!
5 The Ballad of Tommy Shelby For all those Peaky Blinder’s fans, this is a fabulous ode to all the good, the bad and the beautiful, with an obligatory sway and raise your arms section, this is perfect!
6 Like Tears in the Rain – the reinvention of the Blade Runner song is sublime, absolute belter, I LOVE IT!
7 Thrill Kill Killer Club – high energy, high pace, how do they do it?
8 Maybe Tomorrow – I love the heavy rhythm section on this and the harmonies are off the scale.
9 I’ll Remember You – the lead guitar on this is fantastic and the poignancy resonates.
10 Come on Eileen – well lets end and show the less brave out there how to finish an album off… yep it’s a cover of the classic Dexys Midnight Runners track, what a rapturous rendition, takes you straight back to the 1980’s, whilst it captures the essence of that time, it has an invariable Gypsy’s twist and stylish reinvention that really works.
The album has been recorded, mixed and produced by Dave Draper (The Wildhearts, Nickelback, Kerbdog, Terrorvision, The Professionals) at The Old Cider Press Studios, Pershore.
Stand out tracks: This was tough as I loved the whole album but for sheer variety, the title track ‘Duende A Go Go Loco’, ‘Revolution’, ‘What’s it like to be a Girl?’, ‘Maybe Tomorrow’ and personal absolute favourite ‘Like Tears in the Rain’.
So they self-decree that the GYPSY PISTOLEROS are “The World’s Greatest Flamenco Punk Glam Rock band Ever!” and do you know what, I think they are right! Gypsy Pistoleros are unique, completely unique.
Never have I heard such a blend of styles merge so successfully that you’d struggle to label it (don’t bother trying) but the album is absolute killer, high energy, high octane, pedal to the metal all the way. You’re in for one hell of a ride and an absolute blast. An album to lift your spirits and heart rate – give it a spin, there’s nothing out there that resembles this band, it’s the way to go, go!
Having had the privilege of seeing the Gypsy Pistoleros live a few times, that energy is matched by larger-than-life personality and a party you’ll be talking about way after the set has ended – catch them on the road soon too. *****
