Once again I was impatiently awaiting this gig. Filled with excitement I headed off to the Key Club in Leeds.
Upon arriving I found the venue was small and intimate which was a massive bonus, the Stage was raised so bands could be easily seen from wherever you stood. Went to the bar and found it was very reasonably priced too which was another added bonus. I could see a few people also wearing Defects merch which was amazing. I would so proud of this band already so I was so pleased to see it was a good turn out. The music played by the dj before the bands started was nostalgic emo classics which got everyone singing along and in the mood for tonight’s bill.
First up was the incredible Knife Bride. If I was to describe this band it would be like Bring Me the Horizon and Paramore had a baby.
Very heavy riffs and licks, and the vocals from front woman Mollie were absolutely outstanding. The band were really tight and clean. High energy and crowd engagement was really good. From what I heard of their work prior to coming tonight they picked some of their best on the set list which was received very well by the crowd “Melancholia” being my personal favourite from the set, followed by their set closer “Fang Dummy”
They certainly set the bar and the tone for the evening. They are also on my radar! Very very good!
Second up to the bill was Profiler, bringing a fresh Nu metal sound with their Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit influence. Again great heavy sound and stage work. Heavy deep riffs and the work on the bass was perfection.
I felt both bands were on par with each other and the atmosphere was certainly building ready for the main act.
Straight off the bat high energy and crowd engagement. The stage was used beautifully and lighting was hues of blue which highlighted the band perfectly and the use of the smoke machine added to the overall ambience.
Opening with my favourite track “End of Days” as defects were performing I scanned the crowd and I could see many singing along which was so awesome to see. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. This band is going to be so big. Clearly gaining a wider fan base.
The musicianship was on another level. Exquisitely executed and with me being so close I could completely immerse myself in the bands craftsmanship and how they continue to blend together so perfectly to create a truly amazing melodic and vocal experience. Tony once again vocally pouring his heart out to the audience. My words truly cannot do this band justice.
Other stellar songs from the bands debut album “Modern Error” were included in the set such as “Broken Bloodlines” and “Dream Awake” which I still believe is such a fan favourite.
I even got to have a little mosh during the set with frontman tony as usual down in the pit with us. It was a truly amazing and unforgettable experience. Everyone I feel was so happy to be there and loving the band as much as I was.
Ending the set was the absolute face melting “Recurring” one of my favourite songs and it was an absolutely fantastic way to end the set in my opinion.
They’ve done it again, Defects have left it all out on the stage. They gave it their absolute all and clearly love what they do, truly connecting with the fans through their music. It was an absolute pleasure to see them once again and I cannot wait until the next tour already!
