Album review: THE RASMUS – Weirdo

THE RASMUS - Weirdo

Better Noise Music [Release date 12.09.25]

It’s as if the last 20 years never happened. The Rasmus first came to our attention back in 2003 with their Scandi brand of pop/nu-metal and ‘Weirdo’ sees them on a bit of a roll, following their stab at Eurovision glory in 2022.

Whilst some might say that they have gradually veered from their original goth pop template, ‘Weirdo’ offers up a selection of contemporary “bangers” with the standouts ‘Break These Chains’ and ‘Rest In Pieces’ merely the icing on an otherwise well crafted and rather scrumptious cake.

The band have once again teamed up with the legendary Desmond Child for both co-writes and production (which is shared with another bigshot Marti Frederiksen). It shows, combining the melodic savvy of Bon Jovi with the electronica rock fusion of bands like From Fall To Spring and Bad Wolves.

When the band slow the pace down as on ‘You Want It All’ and ‘I’m Coming For You’ they remain convincing. The Rasmus in 2025; more than a guilty pleasure. ****
