Single review: THE MOTHERZ – Sweat
With a name like The Motherz you’re not going to expect Abba are you. And how right you would be. To me they sound like the illegitimate offspring of Metallica and The Stooges. They claim to draw their influences from Black Sabbath, Wolfmother and Queens Of The Stone Age.
This, their debut single, Sweat, gets down to business from the opening rifferama chords, and is relentless throughout the length of the song. If you are a person of nervous disposition you may want to look away, because these boys are taking no prisoners.
They lay their table out perfectly to invite fans of the above mentioned bands and more. With a combination of metal guitar, powerhouse drumming and snarling vocals so full of attitude they make Iggy Pop sound like the sugarplum fairy, I would say they are on to a winner.
The London based trio comprising Cedric Pfiser, Miguel Montalban and Jake Cook, have written and produced an uncompromising debut single, with the message, – setbacks can shape you and effort fuels your evolution. Theres certainly no lack of effort in this song.
Having toured in 25 as support to The Vintage Caravan, I wouldn’t be surprised to this band playing at festivals all through the summer, when hopefully they will make the crowd Sweat!! ****
