Album review : IRON SAVIOR – Death Bringer

Frontiers [Release date : 13.11.26]

Back blending power metal with popular science fiction, Iron Savior are one of a crop of European Power Metal bands who are currently cresting a resurgent wave of interest in the genre.

Their all new release, Death Bringer, capitalises on the critical and popular acclaim of their recent “Reforged” series of albums.

One man producer, writer, singer, guitarist Piet Sielck just radiates power metal. The clamorous, and highly melodic immensity of Death Bringer suggests he has another winning album on his hands, well… “their” hands…he has a fine group of musicians around him. Joachim Kustner, guitar, and the two Patricks, Opitz on bass and Klose on the drums.
It’s a close knit band, tight as a very tight thing.

The instrumental, 90 second opener is an immediate reminder of Sielck’s surefooted way with a dramatic melody, as it rises through the scales to reach an emphatic lift off, launching the title track.

There is a narrative thread running through the album, of course. This is Iron Savior versus “Alien” like creatures, witness ‘The Creature’s Tale’ and coming late in the story, the galloping, fiery moment of truth, ‘Forever And A Day’.

‘Back From The Fires Of Hell’ kicks up a heavily percussive storm, and while they could hardly claim to be original, several tracks, most especially ‘Climbing Higher’, ‘Dawn Of Deliverance’ and the title track are triumphs of craft and design. Each with an epic guitar line which builds to a satisfyingly melodic, power metal chorus.

The speed metal tracks, ‘Never To Yield’ and ‘Light In The Dark’ are what their titles suggest. Torch bearing heavy metal songs, with defiant verses, laden with weighty subject matter and fist in the air choruses.

And no matter the subject matter or the tempo, there’s a consistency to these songs … the ability to wield the heavy metal hammer in triumphant and celebratory fashion, always with a winning ear for melody. ****
