Album review: TWISTED SISTER – Reissues

Twisted Sister

Eagle Records [Release date 17.03.14]

An interesting trio on this budget box set as it skips the band’s debut album ‘Under The Blade’ and their biggest seller ‘Stay Hungry’ (which the band re-recorded in 2004 as ‘Still Hungry’).

You Can’t Stop Rock ‘N’ Roll is their only album which made the UK top 20 albums yet failed to break the US Billboard 100 album chart, showing how popular the band were here in the UK in the early 80′s.

The album includes the anthems ‘I Am (I’m Me)’ and ‘The Kids Are Back’ plus the title track, a live staple for the band. Three bonus songs too (as these CD’s are the ones Eagle put out a few years ago as part of their Twisted Sister re-issues series). A glam metal classic album if ever there was one.  ****

Come Out And Play only went Gold in the US after their previous album ‘Stay Hungry’ had gone triple Platinum and was a mix of classic tunes like their cover of ‘Leader Of The Pack’ (do check out the video to this one!) and ‘I Believe In Rock ‘N’ Roll’.

However there are some fillers like ‘Out On The Streets’. They had a plethora of guests on ‘Be Chrool To Your Scuel’ with Alice Cooper, the Stray Cats Brian Setzer, Clarence Clemmons and Billy Joel! Their weakest album for me.  ***

The last studio album of all new material was Love Is For Suckers which I remember had so-so reviews on its release yet I have always liked this album. Interestingly this album was meant to be a Dee Snider solo release yet the record label insisted it went out under the Twisted Sister name, despite the band hardly playing on it (Kip Winger, Reb Beach and members of Kix featured instead).

There are some great glam/pop metal songs on here like ‘Hot Love’ and ‘One Bad Habit’, plus the old Twisted Sister gang vocals were back on ‘Me And The Boys’. Four bonus songs on this disc too of which ‘I Will Win’ is one of those rock vs. the world anthems the band did so well.  ****

Shame they didn’t ditch ‘Come Out And Play’ in favour of ‘Stay Hungry’ and some sleeve notes would have been good, however you can’t go wrong with this band really. Five brick outhouses, dressed like they had collided with their girlfriends make-up playing catchy glam metal tunes, Twisted Sister were always going to succeed!
