EP Review: TRIA MERA – Extinction
Self-release ( Release Date – out now)
I have never been to Brisbane in Australia but I have always imagined it to be a happy, sunny place full of happy, sunny people, however after listening to this EP I am having my doubts. Tria Mera are from Brisbane and boy do they sound pissed off!
This EP is a ball of pent up fury with anger and angst in every track. Furious riffs meet breakneck drumming whilst vocalist Ben Davis screams his lungs out over the full-on soundtrack. The six tracks on the album are brutal slabs of metal, but they also contain a good dose of melody and harmony to temper the furious delivery. The lead guitar work of Juz Cook is impressive with blistering solos and huge riffs throughout.
This is the band’s second EP, the first gained critical acclaim and saw the band landing an opening slot at the prestigious Soundwave festival. This latest release should see them progressing significantly further up the festival bill next time around. ***1/2
