In this interview extract from April 2009 John Wetton tells David Randall about his early influences, and the immediate aftermath of his departure from Asia in 1991 which led to the release of his second, and favourite, solo album ‘Battle Lines’. (6:49)

Rock music legend John Wetton passed away in the early hours of 31 January after a long battle against colon cancer, aged 67.
John worked with King Crimson in the early 1970′s, Roxy Music, and later formed the band UK.
In the early 1980′s he was a founder member of supergroup Asia, which was his biggest commercial success. The band’s 1982 self-titled debut album was the biggest selling album in the world that year and contained the international hit ‘Heat Of The Moment’.
He also had a parallel solo career and was working on the reissue of his solo albums via his own label.
