Album review: SKARLETT RIOT – Tear Me Down

Release date 25.03.13
Young North Lincolnshire 4 piece Skarlett Riot have embraced the energy of punk and meld it with bludgeoning hard rock riffery on their debut album ‘Tear Me Down’.
An explosive rhythm section (Luke and Tom), and blistering guitar work (Danny) underpins front woman Skarlett’s vocals. More raw and raunchy than the likes of Halestorm and Paramore, they’re nevertheless going to appeal to the same angsty teenage audience.
Raw and incendiary, ‘Tear Me Down’ is a feisty signal of intent. In many ways, its ‘work in progress’ but it’s easy to see how, with a little polish, and a little luck, it could translate to stadiums Stateside.
Take ‘Broken Wings’ for example, it’s iconic enough to guarantee the collective raising of mobile phones and could be a staple crowd pleaser for years to come.
That track aside, parents are likely going to hate Skarlett Riot. The phase ‘turn it down’ was made just for bands like them. And with the ability to appeal to both sexes, attitude and ‘balls’ aplenty, they really belong cruisin’ down the Strip in LA, and not stuck in Scunthorpe. ***
