VERA GRACE – Rotations

S-a-N PR

Oxfordshire 5 piece Vera Grace are about to unleash this, their debut EP, on an unsuspecting world. The band formed at school early in 2011 and released their debut single later in the year. Musically Vera Grace master in the school of Metalcore, taking their cues from the likes of Parkway Drive and Underoath.

The EP contains 5 tracks kicking off with ‘Wasting Away’. The track opens with a strong guitar led intro which offers a lot of promise right up until the point when the vocals kick in. Metalcore vocalists are not usually know for their silky smooth delivery , but Steve struggles from the word go, his shouty style is fairly weak, but it is when the chorus kicks in and he tries his hand at actually singing, that things get really messy, the poor guy would find it hard to carry a tune in a wheelbarrow.

Over the 5 tracks, the band give it their all and given that they must still be showing ID at the bar, there is some decent playing on show. I can’t help thinking though that perhaps they should have got another year under their belts of rehearsing and gigging before they progressed to another recording.

On a positive note, closing track ‘I Am The Earth’ does show some good ideas and promise, which with a bit of nurturing may develop into something worthwhile. Bit of advice to vocalist Steve though, stick to the gruff delivery and you may just get away with it.
