Pride & Joy Music [Release date 19.01.23]
Album number five from Autumn’s Dream, and like the band they morphed from, Last Autumn’s Dream, they are regular as clockwork releasing a new album at the start of each year. Mikael Erlandsson is still at the helm, however, not sure if Jona Tee of H.E.A.T. and Crowne is still involved as can’t seem to find anything about the band’s current line-up.
There are a smattering of guests including Swedish opera singer Karin Funk on the album’s first single ‘Gates of Paradise’. A song that not only has a nice heavy riff but also features a nifty keyboards solo.
Other guests include Magnus Rosén, former bassist of Hammerfall, on the title track and Moon Safari guitarist Pontus Åkesson on ‘A Strike of Lightning’.
Of interest to AOR fans will be Alien’s Jim Jidhed duetting on ‘Juliet’. As Mikael states – “I have always wanted to do a duet with my old friend Jim Jidhed – and now we finally did it!”. Classy song and duet – very Journey like at times – making for one of the album’s highlights.
Elsewhere the upbeat ‘Here Comes the Night’ is a single if ever there was one, sounding not unlike a heavy rock version of ABBA on the chorus!
‘On Top of the World’ leaves a big smile on the listener’s face, whilst the glam rock stomp of ‘Come Get It’ is great fun. This one shows Mikael Erlandsson’s love of the 70′s glam rock of Slade, Sweet and Wizzard.
Autumn’s Child will (sadly) never become a big name, yet they are consistently good on their albums and this latest one will delight their fans, along with anyone who loves hook filled melodic rock. ***1/2
