Ourgate Records 2012
“When The Ship Goes Down” is the 3rd album from British blues bands 24 Pesos and the album’s 11 tracks were recorded in just 2 days- even more impressive is the fact that there were another 7 songs to choose from that never made the album!!
The band has a modern edged blues sound and you would never guess that you are listening to a British band and not an American one. The album is upbeat throughout and mixes soulful blues like “Did Your Daddy Wrong”, the funk laced “Leadbelly” or the Beefheart inspired “Tryin’ To Get Back To You”, with straight ahead blues to good effect.
The vocals of front man and songwriter Julian Burdock have an almost Lenny Kravitz like quality to them, it’s also worth noting at this point that all the rather tasty guitar work on “When The Ship Goes Down” is also courtesy of Mr Burdock.
By all accounts the band’s live show is well worth a watch and they have built up quite a reputation thanks to shows, not only in the UK, but also in Europe, Canada and the US.
