Frontiers 2012
Now here is an album that literally rolls back the years- think classic Motley Crue, Skid Row’s debut, old LA Guns and early Guns N Roses- this has got it all. Crazy Lixx’ 3rd album “Riot Avenue” is a virtual master class in big anthemic, sleazy rock n roll and is the perfect follow up to 2010’s “New Religion”.
Formed in 2002 and initially part of Sweden’s tide of recent sleaze bands, alongside the likes of Crashdiet, Babylon Bombs and Vains of Jenna, Crazy Lixx are now appearing to pull away from their peers somewhat.
It is genuinely not easy to single out the highlights amongst the 11 tracks on “Riot Avenue” as there is not a weak song amongst them. “Whisky Tango Foxtrot” is the perfect track to open the album, and at the other end of the record we have “Only The Dead Know”- where a big acoustic opening gives way to an even bigger, powerful 6 minute album closer.
Between that there are such delights as the Paul Stanley inspired vocals on “Fire It Up” or “Downtown”, the sleaze and swagger of “Heatseeker” or “In The Night”, complete with big choruses and a rhythm section that motors away AC/DC style.
“Riot Avenue” is packed with energy, razor sharp vocals and some of the tastiest guitar playing you will here in 2012- if good solid 80’s style rock is what you are after, you won’t go wrong with Crazy Lixx.
