Quick Plays: SOULICIT, HUMBUCKER

SOULICIT – Parking Lot Rockstar (Thermal Entertainment/Music Buy Mail)

American hard rockers Soulicit have burst on to the rock scene recently, touring with the likes of Buckcherry, Fuel, SevenDust and Halestorm to critical acclaim.  “Parking Lot Rockstar” is the outfit’s debut release.

The sound is predominantly melodic modern rock, with undertones of Nickelback and Hinder.  Each band member produces a strong performance, with every song a solid effort.  “Complicated” is a great ballad and should be heard.

This is a strong release and should be purchased by those with a penchant for the more modern rock sound.  Should be a commercial success if the bigger radio stations pick up on it.

HUMBUCKER – R.O.C.K.S. (Music Buy Mail)

Humbucker is a Norwegian rock outfit that has been gigging for some time.  With fans baying for an album release, Humbucker produces “R.O.C.K.S.”, their debut release.

How dirty do you want it?  Dirty riffs, gravelly vocals, in your face rock ‘n roll is what you get here.  There are one or two tracks that take a bit of getting used to, but the remainder of them get one hooked instantly.  The guitar work is sensational and worth buying the album for alone!

A great in-your-face rock album with attitude!  The album does what it promises, it R.O.C.K.S.  If you like dirty riffs, wailing guitars and gravelly voices, you can’t miss this!

ROBYN – Desire www.robynmusic.org

Robyn has had at least one solo album out to date and this one was released earlier this year (she also fronts a local covers band). The sound/production isn’t great, lacking any depth that you need for an AOR meets MOR album like this one plus the vocals of Robyn are okay but are not up there with the mighty Pat Benatar who she is compared with on the PR sheet. ‘Heartache’ and ‘Lose Myself’ are decent enough but then something like ‘I Found Love’ delves into the syrupy MOR territory, not something most readers of GRTR! will enjoy. Try her website first is the best advice.

THE TUESDAY CLUB – Ain’t Got Class (CDS released Dec 10th)

Bit of a mysterious air pervades this eight piece band whose members range in ages from 28 through to 55. This single has a little of the ‘Rocky Horror Show’ in its delivery and spirit and does grab the listener after a couple of plays, mind you ask your mum to leave the room if you hear it on the radio as the lyrics pull no punches! The ‘b’-side is ‘New Regime’ which is a quick punk-by-numbers tune and nothing special. One for parties methinks.
