The Resistance are a new band but one with a fantastic pedigree. The mainstays in the band are Jesper Stromblad and Glenn Ljungstrom both of whom were in In Flames, Jesper being one of the founding members. They are joined by Marco Aro on vocals and Chris Barkensjo on drums, both of whom are veterans of the Swedish death metal scene.
This EP is a taster from the band prior to a full album release due in May 2013 and if the guys can maintain the same quality that they have shown on the four tracks here then it may just be a contender for ‘album of the year’ come December.
As you would expect the music is full on death metal, uncompromising and brutal in delivery. After a quiet intro the band launch into first track ‘My Fire’ which contains huge riffs from Jesper and Glenn backed up with a great vocal from Marco. ‘Face To Face’ is up next and for me it is the track of the EP. The song contains a riff that Slayer would be proud of coupled with a good dose of melody. The EP title track follows and it provides a short, sharp blast of unrelenting death metal, this track will be a monster live. Rounding things off is, ‘Slugger’, which is built on some fantastic drumming from Chris and which will pummel any doubters left into submission.
This is a very impressive release and as I say if the guys can deliver the same quality on the forthcoming album then success for The Resistance will be a formality. Stunning Stuff.
