DVD review: JON ANDERSON – Tour Of The Universe

Store For Music www.thestoreformusic.com

Although this is released this year by Store For Music, this DVD first saw the light of day back in 2005 when it was released by Classic Pictures. A word of caution for fans as the DVD does indeed feature Jon Anderson live in concert at , in Washington, however various visuals are used throughout and you can’t hear the audience at all, despite Jon Anderson asking them to join in on the Yes classics. There are also a few plugs in the concert itself for the radio station which does detract from the overall enjoyment.

It’s a wide set list calling on all points of his career from ‘State Of Independence’ from Jon & Vangelis through to a wonderful version of the Yes classic ‘Yours Is No Disgrace’. Most songs have Jon singing backed by his acoustic guitar playing with a few songs with him seated at the piano (and look out for a quick cameo of Rick Wakeman – don’t think he was at this performance?).

The special features include classical pianist Roy Howitt explaining how the Golden Mean appears throughout music and then we have Dr Ron Knott explaining how the Golden Mean is found all around us. It is very interesting, although it can take on the air of an Open University programme.

Jon Anderson is on fine vocal form, however most fans would have got this on its original release and this release has no extras from the 2005 release.  ***1/2
