Sebastian Bach’s fourth solo studio album once again finds Bob Marlette in the producers seat and it includes everything you would expect- the instantly recognisable vocals, the screams and the heavy grooves partnered with those big hooks.
On “Give ‘Em Hell” Bach is ably aided and abetted by guitarists Steve Stevens (Billy Idol) and John 5 (Rob Zombie, Marilyn Manson), as well as bassist Duff McKagan, alongside regular band members Devin Bronson and drummer Bobby Jarzombek. With this album it almost feels like a culmination of his solo work to date and “Give ‘Em Hell” is possibly Bach’s strongest album yet.
“Hell Inside My Head” is a great way to kick off the album and would not have been out of place on 1995’s “Subhuman Race”. “Temptation” is a perfect example of Bach’s ability to switch back and forth between light and shade whilst “Disengaged” does the same for those trademark screams and hooks. “Push Away” and “Forget You” are both heavier tracks but all the time stay melodic and “Had Enough” showcases the lighter side of the album.
“Give ‘Em Hell” really doesn’t have any weaker moments and, for me, the best tracks on the album are “Harmony”, “Taking Back Tomorrow” and a surprisingly good cover of April Wine’s “Rock n Roll Is A Vicious Game”.
When it comes to a Sebastian Bach album you generally know what you are going to get and with “Give ‘Em Hell” he has once again delivered the goods. *****
