Black Lodge [Release date 17.04.20]
Bombs Of Hades originally formed back in 2002 to party and play Crusty Death Metal (a new genre on me!) and have over the years released several albums and EP’s whilst honing their sound.
This new EP finds the band blasting out Motorhead-like riffs (some a bit close for comfort, more on that later!) with excellent riffs throughout. ‘Phantom Bell’ kicks things off with a fast and furious, dirty riff accompanied by thunderous drumming. ‘Bridge Of Sighs’ follows complete with a chugging, dark riff and a doom laden air. The use of mellotron in the chorus only helps to add to the doomy atmosphere.
The next track though is where things get a bit too Motorhead like for their own good as the melody and riff for ‘Lungs’ is literally only a chord away from the ‘Head classic ‘Orgasmatron’. A good song though, but hey so was the original…
The urgent, staccato riff of ‘Kamikaze’ rounds off the EP in good style with an extended mid section which is heavy and trippy in equal measure.
Overall then this EP contains four heavy slabs of quality metal, still not sure where the ‘Crusty’ tag comes in though.
