Niko Moilanen from Blind Channel answered our questions about playing at Wacken, the music scene in Finland and more…
WHAT ARE YOUR MUSICAL INFLUENCES?
Our music is influenced by bands like I Prevail, Bring Me The Horizon, older Linkin Park & Modern Hiphop & Trap sounds
WHAT WAS IT LIKE TO WIN THE WACKEN METAL BATTLE AND PLAY IN FRONT OF A HUGE CROWD AT WACKEN?
It was our first show abroad, our trial by fire. It’s been almost 6 years. Time flies, it was incredible and fun. We were teenagers back then and had the best times of our lives!
YOU ARE ENTER SHIKARI FANS, WHAT WAS IT LIKE SUPPORTING THEM?
One of the biggest dream-come-trues. It was our first year as a band so it felt like something really huge was happening when we got to support Enter Shikari and meet them in person.
THE MUSIC SCENE IN FINLAND IS THRIVING, HOW DOES THIS HELP AN UP & COMING BAND?
For a metal/rock band Finland is a very good place to start a career. There are many band competitions and events all around Finland – so basically there’s a lot of opportunities to make it happen as a musician. Nowadays it’s getting harder and harder to break through as a band, and we’re thankful that we’ve got this far. Still, we have a long way ahead of us.
WHAT IS YOUR LIVE SHOW LIKE AND WHEN CAN WE EXPECT TO SEE YOU IN THE UK?
We play as 5 – piece band. Our show is a mixture of extreme energy, pure passion & Violent Pop mayhem. Playing live has always been our strength. Our last time in the UK was in December 2018 and we want to come back ASAP!
DO YOU HAVE A NEW ALBUM IN THE WORKS?
We just released our 3rd album ‘Violent Pop’ so not very soon but maybe in 2 years yes! We’re also writing songs all the time, and the new songs will be the best you’ve ever heard from us.
HAVE YOU EXPERIENCED ANY DELAYS IN RECORDING DUE TO COVID-19?
Covid19 hasn’t affected the recordings but we had to cancel all of our shows because of that… Despite the pandemic we have figured out ways to keep working for our future every day. Some of us were in quarantine together so we had nothing else to do except music.
SOME OF US HERE IN THE UK ARE STILL ON LOCKDOWN – CAN YOU RECOMMEND SOME OF YOUR FAVOURITE SONGS TO LISTEN TO AND/OR BOOKS TO READ?
We recommend you all to watch movies like Fight Club, Marvel Movies and listen to your fave bands a lot. Or watch War of The Worlds or the film 2012, things could be worse. And of course, we recommend you listen to our new album Violent Pop. After this pandemic we recommend you to go out and enjoy your fave bands live shows.
ANY MESSAGE FOR YOUR FANS?
We love you a lot. The passion is real. The love is real. Thank you for being with us!
They release a new single ‘Gun’ on 3July via the Ranka Kustannus label. The single is taken from their 3rd album ‘Violent Pop’ and has been produced by Jonas Olsson.
