Album review: SENTON BOMBS – Aerial Threat

SENTON BOMBS - Aerial Threat

Regolith Records [Release date 27.03.21]

Blackpool’s Senton Bombs have recently unleashed their sixth album “Aerial Threat”, a tasty blend of punk, blues and rock, with the odd country twinge, and it follows up 2018’s “Outsiders” nicely.

Of the fourteen tracks on “Aerial Threat” five have already been released as singles, this may seem quite a lot but it’s not too out of place these days. The album does have a feeling of two parts for me, ranging from the sleazy punk edged “High School Low” to “Sin On My Mind”, which almost has an early 90’s Manchester feel to it. Then we get the finely paired “Cheats Prosper” and “Rise of the Underdogs”, which musically have a slight air of Hanoi Rocks to them, at least musically.

“Be What You Want” is nice and sleazy but when you compare the vocal to that on “Lake” or “Coaster” they are miles apart and this adds to the albums slight split feel. That said, the level of musicianship throughout the album is superb and that is part of what makes this band such a popular live draw.

The remaining highlights on “Aerial Threat”, for me, are the opening rally of “Blue Sunset”, “Storm The Castle” and “English Dreams”, but as with it’s predecessor, this is an album that is easy to listen to and gets better with every listen. ****
