Bastette, is the brain child of singer/songwriter Caroline, the alt-rock goddess and her band hail from Blackburn, having formed in early 2019, they are currently taking the rock scene by storm with lots of live performances as well as this epic second EP, ‘Awakening’.
Bastette, the Egyptian Goddess of Protection, symbolised by a lioness, was originally a stage character created by Caroline as something she could step into on stage. She says, “As a musician you are constantly developing and this next EP ‘Awakening’ is about waking up to reality. I have lived a lot of my life hiding from the truth because I couldn’t face negative things that might have been happening. It’s about owning who you truly are – Bastette is a side to me that has always been underlying…. Music has allowed me to let her loose.”
If you have seen Bastette live you will know what a lioness Caroline is!
‘Awakening’ has 4 tracks with the EP beings recorded at The Lounge, Wigan with producer Gareth Nuttall. With influences ranging from classic rock to pop, the EP provides a whistle stop taste of the (rock) world of Bastette.
‘Ficton’ is the latest single to be released just ahead of the EP. Apparently ‘Fiction’ started out as a dark, sultry, piano ballad, until the band got involved bringing drums and a Gibson to that kiss-n-tell-story-telling, this track rocks and again, Bastette is up there with the likes of Halestorm in terms of swagger and sassiness.
Caroline Kenyon says: “Fiction is about falling in love with a rockstar. What you see on stage is often the alter ego and perception isn’t quite reality. Every person has a fantasy of what they want from a lover and vice versa…. This is mine!” Watch ‘Fiction’ video HERE
‘Down’ another very relatable track, this is a soundtrack for any relationship break up … “I hate that I miss you” … haven’t we all been there?
‘Good Time Girl’ is actually my favourite track of the EP, from the melodic opening, to the huge powerful hooks, this is a stand out track in an EP packed full of class tracks!
‘Psycho’ was released in April and this track is heavier demonstrating the full range of Caroline’s powerful vocals’ and her lyrics grab you “Don’t get me wrong, I know you’re not the one……for me”
As ever this lady has story telling down to a fine art, both lyrically and in terms of presence and with an accomplished tight band behind her, this has got to be their opportunity to truly go for it, we are ready and waiting for an album, Bastette, get recording! *****
