Casey Maunder is back with the follow-up to his enjoyable debut album ‘Until Your Heart Stops Beating’. That album was jammed packed with riff led hard rockers and pleasingly ‘Get Out and Push’ follows on nicely.
Opener ‘Lately, Sarah Can’t See’ is made for blasting out on stage or your home speakers. Again Casey Maunder shows he is a songwriter with an eye on the times and world around us, as this song and ‘Put Me On TV’. Personal pick is ‘The Crow on the Branch’, a scathing takedown of online trolls and the like. Also, the guitar solo is rather fine too!
It is not all hard rocking as ‘Brooklyn in the Rain’ is a gentler affair and shows he can mix it up, both musically and vocally. Touch of the Manics on ‘Methadone, My Soul’, where James Weaver’s production comes into its own. The album’s sound is sonically loud, but never distorted and sounds great on headphones.
Plenty of songs on here would make ideal plays on rock radio (or better still, mainstream radio if they shook off their rigid playlisting) including ‘One More Stone In My Shoe’ – a chorus and a half – and ‘Hardwired’ with its nice guitar crunch and big chorus.
Casey Maunder is quite possibly the best melodic hard rocker you’ve yet to hear. What are you waiting for? Go grab a listen online or be more old school, buy a CD direct from the artist. Already looking forward to album number three. ****
