Album review : ETERNAL IDOL – Behind A Vision

Frontiers Music [Release date : 11.07.25]

Eternal Idol have had a brand refresh.

Behind A Vision is a more considered album, incomparably better written and better acted out than Renaissance (2020), the band’s second and most recent album.

And again, the lineup changes take centre stage. The presence of founder member, Fabio Lione seems a long time ago. Only guitarist Nick Savio remains of the original line up, which now lists Andrea Buratto and Enrico Fabris on bass and drums, with Gabriele Gozzi and Letitia Merlo handling vocals.

The 11 tracks are all 3, 4 or 5 minute songs. They get in quick, do their job and get out again fast, relatively speaking.

Savio, now an experienced producer, dawdles with the epic and toys with the symphonic. Standout tracks all have something special, ‘Empire Of One’ is heavy on the Prog; ‘Beyond The Sun’ (like several others) has frequent classical music references, and ‘The Enemy Is Me’ has a powerful metal theme.

With unashamed nods to the great of the past, he’s creating his own symphonic/epic/progressive rock and metal. His band respond. In Gozzi and Merlo he’s found two talented, like minded singers, both with much to offer.

Simone Mularoni does his usual hard in the middle, soft around the edges mix. ****
