If you can't find what you're looking for - or wish to refine your search to include only references to the key search term - try putting inverted commas around the search term e.g. "Steve Lukather" or "Black Star Riders"
For example if you enter Black Star Riders the results will include all instances of "Black" "Star" and "Riders". The search will also be slower.

Gig review: STATUS QUO – Roundhouse, London, 22 October 2014
…candidates. Stripping back the songs in this way did show the quality of their songwriting and Francis Rossi’s reedy voice always did have a slightly countryish tinge. ‘Break The Rules’, with some harmonica from Andy Bown, showed this perfectly. Rick Parfitt’s all out vocal style was perhaps less naturally suited to the format though I was amused when he delivered ‘Again And Again’ in a somewhat crooning style which reminded me, if n… Continue reading

…ng reminiscences of the days when Donington meant Monsters of Rock and only one stage. Album review: ROBERT REED – Sanctuary
…tilled by Mike Oldfield forty years ago and even using his collaborators Tom Newman and Simon Heyworth. Robert Reed makes no secret of his indebtedness to the great Mike, inspiring him as a child to take up music more seriously. And he says that whilst this album takes its cue from Tubular Bells (a similar feat of musical prowess but this time Reed plays all instruments) he has also used voices for emotional impact, the so-called “wordles… Continue reading

Album review: DOUG GILLARD – Parade On
…ve knocked out in a few minutes down-time, but it’s no worse for that! The riff driven ‘On Target’ could be Lou Reed, before it explodes into a short but effective manic shred, and Doug’s vocal on the title track gives it an uplifting feel over a guitar drenched wall of sound and a Beatles style guitar motif. You could imagine it being stretched out as a live favourite. Doug Gillard’s career stretches back to 1983, and ‘Parade On’ subtly reveals… Continue reading

Album review: JEFF GREEN PROJECT – Elder Creek
…ion has been avoided with a powerful narrative that goes for an emotional jugular. It is wonderful to hear Alan Reed, ex-Pallas, guesting on ‘A Long Time From Now’. Mixing up the album’s contributors makes it feel more like a project that a solo album. Reed’s characterful voice takes me right back to those early Pallas gigs in Stoke-On-Trent Shelley’s in the mid-80’s. It’s not just Green’s memories that are being tampered with here! Mike Stobbie,… Continue reading

Interview: 10Q’s with JEFF GREEN
…rite themselves. It’s a very creative process! 3. You have some notable guests like former Pallas vocalist Alan Reed and former Big Big Train vocalist Sean Filkins. When you have guest musicians do you adapt the music say to their vocals or is a case of the guest becomes available and you use them on a song as it is? Not in the case of Elder Creek. The songs were already written when Phil Chelmsford suggested using some guest vocalists, so it was… Continue reading

Gig review: AN EVENING FOR WALTER TROUT – Shepherd’s Bush Empire, London, 4 May 2014
…to his blues roots for Sonny Boy’s ‘Help Me’ which is a traditional Walter Trout opener. He revelled on Jimmy Reed’s ‘Shame Shame Shame’ and growled out a mean ‘Got My Brand On You’, by which time he stomped the stage, waved his first at the balcony, and swore about the fact he had to relearn old blues lyrics, in a magical moment. Jon Trout’s major gig debut proved to be an emotional moment, but with a helping hand from the house band and Andr… Continue reading

Gig review: HARD ROCK HELL BLUES – Pwllheli, 21-22 March 2014
…of Rory tracks that are played with a passion and authenticity that you won’t get anywhere else. Saturday 22 March This morning was definitely one for the blues as the inclement weather was making an appearance again. First to grace the Bonga Wonga stage this morning was the Brothers Groove, a 3 piece brummie based blues groove band nominated for 2 categories at the British Blues Awards earlier this year. Following them was the Brian Rawson… Continue reading

Saturday 22 March September Code kicked off the day with a great set of more melodic rock and despite their Greek origin all the vocals are in English and a damm good set too.
