If you can't find what you're looking for - or wish to refine your search to include only references to the key search term - try putting inverted commas around the search term e.g. "Steve Lukather" or "Black Star Riders"
For example if you enter Black Star Riders the results will include all instances of "Black" "Star" and "Riders". The search will also be slower.

Album review: A BLUES TRIBUTE TO CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL
…Can See The Light’. Finally there surely should have been room on a blues album for a version of Screamin’ Jay Hawkins ‘I Put A Spell On You’, which Creedence took into the lower reaches of the charts. That said, there’s fresh take on 9 of the tracks and even if die-hard Creedence fans might argue that the originals don’t need changing, they should warm to the excellent cover of ‘Fortunate Son’ by Mike Zito and Sonny Landreth, with bv’s from Sam… Continue reading

Gig review: CAMBRIDGE ROCK FESTIVAL – 8-10 August 2014
…ver of ‘Go Your Own Way’ played a great solo while running around the crowd in the manner of Justin Hawkins or Airborne’s Joel O’Keefe, to whom he bore a passing resemblance. Definitely a band to keep your eye on. Welshmen Fireroad I gathered during the weekend have secured a shot on Lynyrd Skynyrd’s cruise, which for an unsigned band is quite a coup. As befitted a band nearly all clad in check shirts, they peddled… Continue reading

Album review: POOBAH – U.S. Rock
…he album is the guitar work and the unique vocals of Gustafson, I have a sneaking suspicion that a young Justin Hawkins from The Darkness may have been influenced by Jim’s falsetto style. Whilst the vocals at times may be a bit much, the guitar work is never less than stunning. On songs like ‘Flesh Fantasies’ and ‘Let’s Rock’ Gustafson’s riffing is first rate, oh and if you don’t dance to ‘Let’s Rock’ then I would check for a pulse! Stand out tra… Continue reading

Gig review: HARD ROCK HELL BLUES – Pwllheli, 21-22 March 2014
…of Rory tracks that are played with a passion and authenticity that you won’t get anywhere else. Saturday 22 March This morning was definitely one for the blues as the inclement weather was making an appearance again. First to grace the Bonga Wonga stage this morning was the Brothers Groove, a 3 piece brummie based blues groove band nominated for 2 categories at the British Blues Awards earlier this year. Following them was the Brian Rawson… Continue reading

…age show they impressed with tracks like ‘Her Epitaph’ and ‘The Light Within’. Saturday 22 March September Code kicked off the day with a great set of more melodic rock and despite their Greek origin all the vocals are in English and a damm good set too. Crimson Sky came out for an extended set. Vocalist Jane Setter, whose striking red bowler hat and red feather shawl added some welcome style to the show, belted out great… Continue reading

…day of top quality bands. All that was left to do now was to stagger back and find the caravan… Saturday 22 March Hailing from St. Petersburg in Russia Reds’ Cool are a hard rock blend – with essence of Gotthard, Pretty Maids and Shakra – these guys kicked out a fantastic set immediately commanding attention of everyone, myself included in the room. DVD reviews: GEORGE THOROGOOD & THE DESTROYERS, BRYAN FERRY, HUGH LAURIE
…we find Ferry at France’s Nuits de Fourviere festival and the smooth old bastard does not put a foot wrong over 22 tracks here and, backed by a relatively young backing band, covers over 40 years of classics. The set starts well with a great version of Screaming Jay Hawkins’ “I Put A Spell On You”, “Slave To Love” and “You Can Dance”, there is also an outstanding working of Neil Young’s “Like A Hurricane”. Then we get to “My Only Love” and from t… Continue reading
