I have come across many rock genres and sub-genres in my time, but Melt have introduced me to yet another in the shape of ‘ dark alternapop’, so what the hell is it ??
Fronted by classically trained singer, Lyndsey Kyte, the band’s sound veers from Garbage-esque dark pop rock to a more punky sound similar to early Siouxsie and The Banshees . There is some good musicianship throughout the 7 tracks on offer with the usual guitars and drums being joined by violin, trumpet and even glockenspiel on some tracks. Lyndsey’s vocals however are a bit of an acquired taste, which unfortunately I didn’t acquire, I just found them grating and slightly off key.
Best tracks on the EP are the opener and title track ‘Armaggedon Party’ and the faster paced ’Draggin’ Me Down’, the title of the latter is quite apt as that is exactly what I think the vocals do to Melt’s sound.
Melt apparently have quite a following in their hometown of Boston, whether they will progress beyond the city limits and to further success remains to be seen, but Melt, ironically, left me cold.

PDF - you can delete unwanted sections
Which of these seven tracks that you purported to listen to had the trumpet? or the violin? or the glockenspiel? I know for a fact that none of the songs on the EP have any of those instruments in them.
I’m sure some of your readers swallow this sort of negative, high-and-mighty prose without question, but I wonder how many of your other reviews are based off of songs you’ve never even listened to. Is it common practice for this website’s critics to pretend to listen to bands and use their pre-formed opinion to write haughty reviews?
