The Raconteurs – Live At Montreux 2008

Eagle Vision 2012

The new live DVD, their first, from The Raconteurs quite literally finds the band “Live At Montreux”. Filmed in 2008 when the band were touring in support of second album “Consolers of The Lonely”, the set consisting of tracks taken from this and debut album “Broken Boy Soldiers”, plus covers of Terry Reid’s “Rich Kid Blues” and the Charley Jordan song “Keep It Clean”.

The band was formed in 2005 and features White Stripes’ much in demand collaborator Jack White, solo artist Brendan Benson and the rhythm section of Patrick Keeler and Jack Lawrence from The Greenhornes. From their live set you get every element of The Raconteurs sound – from the Led Zep like “Consolers of The Lonely” and “Keep It Clean” to the virtually instrumental distortion of “Level” or the folky feel of “Old Enough” or the slow blues of “Blue Veins”. Tracks like “Intimate Secretary” highlight the bands ability to switch between clean vocals and distortion, whilst “Rich Kid Blues” is a perfectly chosen cover as it blends in well with the band’s more established material.

Other highlights amongst the 16 song set include “You Don’t Understand Me”, “Many Shades of Black”, “Broken Boy Soldier” and probably the band’s biggest hit ”Steady, As She Goes”- which was the most well received of the evening by the audience.

With the band appearing to be on an indefinite hiatus while it’s members pursue other musical outlets, “Live At Montreux 2008” will serve as a good reminder of The Raconteurs live energy and blistering talent.
