Singles Bar: MINIATURE DINOSAURS, BLUEVEILS, JUNKFOXX, AGENTS OF CHAOS

Miniature Dinosaurs – Lemonade (Integrity Records)

This is the first single to be taken from Miniature Dinosaurs forthcoming EP ‘Turn It On’ and it’s a decent listen. The band play an upbeat indie pop reminiscent of fellow scots Orange Juice, for those old enough to remember the early 80’s. Nothing new then, but worth a listen none the less, plus they come from my home town of Stirling, so a bit of local bias is included in the total !

Blueveils – Out Of The Blue (Manilla PR)

Harrow based indie rockers Blueveils are about to release their latest EP. The 5 piece play a Kasabian- lite rock which isn’t as bad as the description may suggest. Of the four tracks featured the best are ‘I Am Karma’ which packs a punch and the slower ‘Dirty Tricks’ are the standouts. The guys have written over 25 tracks so far including one about a Pug owned by two guys in the band which is called Ziggy Stardust, rock ‘n’ roll indeed !  Not quite the dog’s danglies then, but far from a complete growler.

Junkfoxx – Smokey Red EP (TSM)

Junkfoxx hail from deepest Essex and were formed back in 2011. The three piece are comprised of Nathan Lusher on guitar and vocals, Julia Clark on bass and vocals and Dan Brown on drums who apparently has the impressive nickname of ‘Bongo Spud Gun,’ the mind boggles.

The band play straight forward melodic ‘pub’ rock which is pleasant enough with the lead vocal duties split between Nathan and Julia. The four tracks on the EP are fairly bog standard with little to get excited about. If you find Junkfoxx down your local they would go well with a couple of pints, but beyond that there is very little I’m afraid.

Agents Of Chaos – Volume One (Self Release)

Agents Of Chaos come from Seattle, if you weren’t aware of this it would become apparent within the first few minutes of the opening track ‘Face Down’. Alice In Chains were obviously a big influence on the band and their sound is very similar, but they have the ability to put their own spin on the post grunge sound. The 5 tracks on offer here are classy slabs of melodic rock with a grunge edge, the highlights being ‘ Cold War’ and ‘One Last Look’ which contains a low down, dirty riff which underpins the track. This EP is worth searching out, at the moment the band are without a label, but on the evidence here it should only be a matter of time before they are snapped up.
