Crucified Barbara is Sweden’s, if not music in generals, premier female metal band. The four-piece has been together since 1998 and have just released 3rd album “The Midnight Chase”. Pretty much picking up where its predecessor, 2009’s “Til Death Do Us Party”, left off- the album has a slightly more mature feel to it and this is no doubt down to the extent of the band’s touring in between the two albums.
The album opens with gritty “The Crucifier” and closes with “Rise and Shine”, both tracks perfectly placed. In between are the likes of “Into The Fire” with its crouching guitars and some glass edged vocals from Mia Coldheart, “If I Hide”, the energetic “Kid From The Upper Class” and “Shut Your Mouth”. However, the tracks which ultimately stand out amongst the others are “Everything We Need”, title track “The Midnight Chase” and the piano led ballad “Count Me In”, which comes complete with some haunting guitars.
With “The Midnight Chase” Crucified Barbara have created an album that should help them attract a bigger audience outside of Europe.
In his show broadcast on Get Ready to ROCK! Radio on 10 May David Randall played a further selection of artists and albums included in the new Features series, “2020 Vision”.
