FATAL FORCE – Unholy Rites

Metal heaven (Release Date – Out Now)

Fatal Force is the brainchild of Fate guitarist Torben Enevoldsen and has been a long time in the planning. He is joined here by Mike Vescera on vocals and Dennis Hansen on drums with Torben taking care of all the guitar and bass work.

Torben is a virtuoso guitarist and his playing is unsurprisingly the main feature of the album. On an album like this it is easy to focus on the fretwork and forget about the songs, but here they integrate well to produce a cohesive body of work with a power metal edge.

Heavy riffs, blistering solo’s, double bass pummelling and soaring vocals are the order of the day here and opener ‘Run For Cover’ sets the stall out nicely with all elements present and correct. The playing standard is first rate but all the tracks are a bit too similar and one paced to really grab you. If there is a vinyl copy of this record, you could drop the needle anywhere on the record and all would sound very similar.

A decent album then with good guitar work, just not enough variety to make it a must have.
