LIAR LIAR, THE TRADE, E.V.E

LIAR LIAR – He Said, She Said

Self Release ( Release Date – 5th Nov 2012)

Pop punksters Liar Liar hail from the Steeltown of Sheffield but that is as close as they get to heavy metal. This is the band’s debut EP and comes straight from the Blink 182 school of catchy punk. The 4 tracks contained here are decent enough, but nothing you won’t have heard before many times. Best track is opener ‘ Heart Attack’ which shows a bit of spirit but little ingenuity. However if you are looking for a bit of pop punk nonsense then you could do worse.

THE TRADE – Do You Want To

Ditto Music (Release Date – Out Now)

‘Do You Want To’ is the 1st single from Scot’s indie rockers The Trade. The guys have been touring extensively over the last three years and have picked up support slots with The Buzzcocks, The Undertones and Stiff Little Fingers to name but a few. There is only one track on the disc, which is fairly standard indie rock, well played, but nothing to get the blood pumping. The single is lifted from the band’s album ‘Lie In The Dark’, which was released in 2011, maybe listening to the track as part of the album rather than in isolation would have proved a better introduction .

E.V.E – Equations Vanquish Equality

Two Sides Moon (Release Date – Out Now)

E.V.E are a project put together by American/Greek composer and vocalist Vicky Psasakis. Gathering together some like-minded musicians, including Yannis Papadopoulos from Greek power metallers Wardrum. This is the first fruit of the collaboration and it is a bit of a mixed bag. Opening track ‘Poetic Injustice’ instantly reminded me of Pink Floyd’s ‘Keep Talking’ with Vicky taking the Stephen Hawking role, not literally I presume. Next up we have ‘Perpetual Dreams’ which is a jazzy, prog affair reminiscent of the Dave Matthews Band strangely enough. The other two tracks veer into Dream Theater territory, heavier numbers with complex passages.

The band are hoping to develop their sound and release a full album in 2013, which direction they will grow in is yet to be seen, I am not sure they know themselves yet !
