Best of 2012 with DAVE CLARKE

Dave Clarke of Planet Earth Publicity gives a sneak preview of some upcoming musical projects and a little football…

What have you got planned music/promotion wise for next year?

I’m looking forward to Lisbee Stainton’s UK tour, the new albums from American artists The Burning of Rome and Shawn Jones, and continuing the work I’ve just started with New Zealand’s finest rockers The Feelers. I’ve got a couple of very cool World Music projects on the cards, too.

How have Portsmouth faired so far this season and does the future look better now than it did six months to a year ago?

Pompey are still in the middle of a financial nightmare, so it’s been truly awful. There is a chink of light at the end of the tunnel, but Pompey being Pompey I’m not getting too excited.  Still, we’ve won more trophies than Arsenal have in recent years, and Southampton will be relegated in May. Seriously, I’m currently getting more pleasure from watching my local team Great Chesterford FC play in the Cambs FA League at the moment. We won 15-1 on Saturday. It was 90 minutes of Total Football that made manager Elliot Smith a proud man.

Top five albums.

Truckers of Husk – Accelerated Learning
The Jar Family – The Jar Family Album
Rhys Williams – Great Falls
Nine Below Zero – Live At The Marquee (expanded edition)
Big Country – The Crossing (Deluxe Edition)

Top DVD.

Breaking Bad, series 1-4

Any recent books you have read that you would recommend?

‘In The Pleasure Groove: Love, Death, and Duran Duran’, by John Taylor

Top gigs.

Camille O’Sullivan – The Southbank (twice!)
Big Country – Shepherd’s Bush Empire
Level 42 – Cambridge Corn Exchange
Nathan Watson & The Freakonomic – The 100 Club
The Jar Family – The Barfly (Camden)

Best re-issue.

Big Country – The Crossing (Deluxe Edition)

Highs and lows of 2012.

High: finding out I’m going to be a Dad for the first time, and interviewing my bass playing hero John Taylor for the front cover feature of Bass Guitar magazine.

Low point: Pompey going down at the same time Southampton went up. Sickening.

Any tips for bands/musicians to keep an eye on in 2013?

The Burning of Rome.
