SHAWN JONES – Struggle Makes You Stronger

High Drive Records www.shawnjonesmusic.com (Release date 11th Feb)

Shawn Jones has already released four studio and one live album prior to this new album. He has also been out on tour with BB King, Buddy Guy and Robert Cray amongst others (Robert Cray’s drummer Tony Braunagel guests on one song).

The album is an enjoyable mix of blues, southern rock and a little soul. Vocally Shawn Jones has a little hint of Paul Rodgers, more so on the laid back songs like ‘Sweet Victoria’. He plays some great slide on ‘Life Is For Living’ and ‘She Don’t Know (‘Bout Her Own Mojo)’. A real standout is the southern rock of ‘Runnin’ Water’, one of those songs with a life affirming message that Lynyrd Skynyrd do so well and I am sure they would have liked to pen this song.

Classy album for those who enjoyed impeccable blues playing mixed with some southern and soul influences. He has a soulful voice as well, something many blues players lack.
