ISAW – The Identity
Self Release (Release date – out now)
Influenced by Machine Head, Strapping Young Lad and Pantera amongst others, ISAW are a full on metal crew from Adelaide in Australia. The band have found success in their home country winning a clutch of awards and appearing on the bill of the Soundwave festival in 2010. This disc is their debut album and it is a quality release.
Right from the opening bars of ‘ Catch 22’ which kicks off the disc the band take no prisoners. This is metal with a modern twist, the guys have taken elements from each of their influences and have moulded them into their own heavy and unforgiving style. ‘Shot Down’ is another good example of this with definite Pantera overtones but served up with ISAW added urgency and melody.
There are a couple of more subtle numbers on show to break up the relentless onslaught in the shape of ‘Horizons’ and ‘Dead Inside’ which add depth to the album. These though are pockets of relative calm in a turbulent sea of metal.
ISAW have created a heavy, unrelenting album which should see the band’s popularity rise along with the acclaim of their critics and peers. Brutal stuff.
