MY SOLILOQUY – The Interpreter
www.mysoliloquy.net (Released 18.02.13)
This album has been in the works for the past couple of years and is the brainchild of Threshold’s Pete Morten (he also had a brief spell fronting the now defunct Power Quest). Pete Morten has written, arranged and performed all the music on the album, bar the drums/percussion which are played by Damon Root. The production is in the experienced hands of Rob Aubery (IQ/Marillion).
The album is a real labour of love and there is so much going musically on that each play reveals a little more of each song. I would advise giving the album a few plays first though as Pete’s vocals are not those of your typical prog metal wailers!
There are also some interesting musical twists like the dance/trance intro to ‘Corrosive De-Emphasis’ (a Threshold song title if ever there was one!). I am mightily impressed with the closing song ‘Star’, where Pete has a chance to show his mellow vocal on a gentle, almost trippy ballad. Again the song puts varying vocal effects to good use.
Threshold fans will of course enjoy this album and lovers of prog metal would do well to add this to their shopping list. A classic ‘grower’ of an album that gets better with each play.
