Skinny Molly are a four piece US Southern rock band made up of ex members of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet and Blackfoot who are Mike Estes (guitar/vocals), Jay Johnson (guitar/vocals), Luke Bradshaw (bass) and Kurt Pietro (drums).
This was the first time I have seen Skinny Molly and following good recommendations and being a big Lynyrd Skynyrd fan I was rather looking forward to it. The four rockers from the US celebrated Thanksgiving Day with a foot stomping, romping two hour set with tracks from their CD’s ‘Haywire Riot’ and ‘No Good Deeds’. The singer, Mike, had a great rapport with the large audience on their second visit at the Beaverwood as they belted out tracks such as ‘Two Good Wheels’ and ‘Devil in a Bottle’.
‘Copperhead Road’ was a classic country rock track that was worth attending the gig for on its own and with covers of ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ and my own personal favourite ‘Freebird’, it was two hours of pure joy. Mike’s low voice and Jay’s slightly higher vocal complement each other perfectly, with each other’s solid guitar work and Kurt’s excellent drumming, this extremely talented foursome must be seen as they finish off their successful European tour.
