Album review: ADRIAN GALYSH – Tone Poet

Adrian Galysh - Tone Poet

www.adriangalysh.com [Release date 03.12.13]

Not a name I have come across before, although Adrian Galysh has been releasing albums since 1998 (this is his fourth solo album) and has toured in Uli Jon Roth’s band. He has won plaudits from fellow musicians and reviewers and joining him on this album are vocalist Mark Boals (Ring Of Fire/Yngwie Malmsteen), Styx drummer Todd Sucherman and bassist Philip Bynoe (Steve Vai).

Full marks go for his wide variety of musical styles covered, be it the orchestral pomp of ‘Resurrectis’ or the prog metal of ‘Brick By Brick’, sounding not unlike Ring Of Fire thanks to Mark Boals (he sings on four songs in total) who has a voice made for prog metal.

Mind you Boals shows his mellower side on ‘When You Fall’, where not only does Adrian shows off his guitar (both electric and acoustic) prowess but adds in piano to round out the song. ‘La Dolce Vita’ mixes in choral snippets with a little jazz and Brian May approved soloing at one stage.

A lot of the instrumental pieces you can imagine being used in films like ‘Epoch’. It is amazing how he creates such authentic sounding orchestras without them sounding too programmed as you often hear on albums.

Guitar fans will love this album as will prog metal fans as Adrian’s playing and songs complement Mark Boals vocals so well. Shame a label like Frontiers or AFM Records haven’t picked this release up as it deserves a wide audience.
