Audio Nation was founded in 2012 in Reykjavik, Iceland (one of my old haunts) by Gulli Falk and Gisli. They cite influences from Alice in Chains and Rush among others. ‘Wait It Out’ is their debut album and took six months to perfect, it comprises ten tracks.
The music is well played with Gulli on guitar, Gummi on drums and Joi on bass, vocals by Gisli are excellent however the copious amounts of sax, also Gisli, are not so much to my taste.
The album claims to have a grunge feel to it and on the tracks ‘How Thoughts Change’ and ‘Wonder Why ‘ this is evident, they are good rock tracks and I enjoyed them. The track ‘My Grave’ was released as a single, it begins with a ‘spaghetti western’ whistle then morphs into a slow rock and roll song with a poppy chorus.
‘Wait It Out’ is a very slow album, mostly slow, jazzy tracks with a bluesy feel, more pop rock than rock and roll, it has very well played music though and good harmonies. Audio Nation show lots of talent and deserve to do well but this album is not for me, although one of the ‘limited edition wool cover’ versions would be an interesting addition to any CD collection. ***
