Album review: THE RISING – Coming Home

The Rising - Coming Home

Renegade Maverick Records [Release date 25.08.14]

Debut album from this three piece Belfast band who were originally called EXIT and featured in the likes of Kerrang! Now they have reinvented their sound and changed names (based on a Bruce Springsteen album title), with a more alt country sound.

Well the band’s change in sound certainly works as they have produced an album full of arena friendly anthems. Tunes like ‘Calling You’ and ‘Still Coming Home To You’ are very easy on the ear country meets pop/rock anthems. The band they most remind me of is the Hooters, listen to ‘City By The Sea’ and you’d swear it was the Hooters in their prime.

They even slip in a little rock ‘n’ roll stomp on ‘Highway To The Lost & Found’, one of the album highlights along with the aforementioned ‘Calling You’.

The Rising have taken a brave move reinventing themselves and here’s hoping it pays off for them, as based on this set of songs they deserve success.  ***1/2
