Album review: MACHINE ROX – Next Level
Synchrotrax Records [Release date 22.09.14]
Electro metal/ Cyber metal/ Industrial metal, call it what you will, can either produce glorious masterpieces of heaviness as with Rammstein or repetitive, snore inducing tracks, who mentioned Rob Zombie? Machine Rox manage to land somewhere in the middle of the two with just enough to keep them out the ‘snooze’ zone.
Led by musician and songwriter Richard K, who has played with both Meat Machine and Global Noise Attack, the band blend heavy, pulsing beats with heavy guitars and pumping bass to produce decent industrial metal. They cite Rammstein, Rob Zombie and Die Krupps as influences but I would also include the likes of Pendulum and Chase and Status to that list.
Richard K’s vocal delivery is more Rob Zombie than anything else and whilst the tracks do have a little bit of variety the vocals, as with Zombie himself, never change which does become wearing rather quickly. It is this element that, for me, keeps the score down. In one of his former bands Mr K supported Rammstein but up against the vocal prowess of Till Lindemann there would have been no competition.
Musically there is the odd flourish and memorable riff provided again by Richard K, there appears to be only K and Aga on keyboards on the actual album with the addition of a guitarist and a drummer for live work. The first two tracks on the album, ‘Lost My Mind’ and ‘Love Explosion’, are the best or perhaps after them I just started to lose interest?
For lovers of industrial metal this album would be a worthwhile addition to their collections, I don’t think I will be returning to the pounding block beats any time soon though. **1/2

Album Review: WINTTER – Wings
WM Records [Release date- Out Now]
Wintter are a family trio from Sao Paulo in Brazil. They formed in 1997 as a Rush tribute band. They play progressive hard rock. Wings is a concept album on the theme of flying, two of the members are pilots.
Wings consists of eleven tracks, ‘See You In Hell’ was released as a single, it is quite a prog track with a good tune but it is let down a bit by Elliot Wintter’s vocal efforts. Elliot’s voice at times sounds like Axel Rose and at others like Bruce Dickinson however only a poor imitation of them.
Best track for me was ‘Wings’, a faster pace and excellent playing by Thiago on drums, Gabriel on guitar and synthesiser and Elliot himself on bass and keyboards.
On the whole this is quite a good album, full of good ideas and great playing. Unfortunately the guys don’t quite pull it off, poor vocals and no original ideas. They ‘came from Brazil to shake the metal world’, sorry, I’m not shaken, or stirred for that matter! **1/2

EP Review: ANTI-CLONE – Hands Sewn Together
Self Release [Release Date 25.08.14]
AnTI-CLoNe are a metal five-some from Lincolnshire, they formed in 2011 and Hands Sewn Together is their new EP featuring their debut single, ‘1984’. They mention Marilyn Manson, Slipknot and Tool as influences.
‘1984’ has an almost chanted start then it comes to life with a discordant chorus. Best track for me is track two, ‘Here Comes The Flood’, loud, hard, discordant at times, excellent rhythms and ferocious playing. ‘System’ is another hard hitting track with rhythm changes driving the song on, this song features John Knight from SynaptiK.
This EP is an excellent start for AnTI-CLoNe, hopefully they will build on it and release an equally good album soon. ***
