EP reviews: MORE THAN MOST, HOMEWRECKR

EP Review: MORE THAN MOST – Impossible Is Temporary

MORE THAN MOST – Impossible Is Temporary

Self release [Release date 05.02.16]

This is the debut EP from the London five piece who formed back in 2014. They describe themselves as ‘electronic alt-rockers’ and contain elements from the likes of Pendulum, Linkin Park and The Blackout.

The EP contains four tracks and all are a good listen. Opener ‘You’re Not Alone’ has a Linkin Park feel to it with the vocal line followed by the big guitar and keyboard suckerpunch. ‘Remember Who You Are’ is a track for anyone still lamenting the demise of The Blackout (I know I am!), a short sharp rocking number with a catchy riff and a big chorus. ‘Save Me from Myself’ and ‘Nightmares’ round off the EP and again are both high quality, uptempo rockers.

More Than Most have delivered an impressive debut both musically and packaging wise, the CD is like a mini 7” single which looks excellent. The band have already picked up airplay on Scuzz and have played extensively in London and around the South of England and I can see this EP upping their profile even further.  ***1/2

EP Review: HOMEWRECKR – The Wreckning

HOMEWRECKR – The Wreckning

Self release [Release date 27.06.15]

This EP has taken a while to make its way over from the States and I am not sure it was worth the wait. Homewreckr hail from Clarkston, Washington and have been rocking together since 2010. The band master in melodic hard rock and have shared stages with the likes of Quiet Riot and Puddle Of Mud amongst others where they would have fitted in well with the musical style.

This EP contains 5 tracks and an additional 3 alternative edits of tracks featured. The best track is probably ‘Man Was Born’ but none really stood out as being anything special. Musically things are solid and well played, in particular guitarist Alexander Black puts in a strong performance. Vocalist Kevin Black though is competent at best, his range is limited and I could picture the veins sticking out of his neck whilst he forced out some of the higher notes.

They have been described as ‘one of the best local hard rock acts’ and after a couple of spins I think that is the highest praise they are likely to get.  **1/2
