EP review: IMPAVIDUS – s/t

Manchester born Impavidus are currently tearing venues all around the UK apart and their newly released EP is the damning evidence. Formed from members of both My Wooden Pillow and Driven Apart, Impavidus provide a cutting edge metal experience taking influence from bands such as Machine Head, Gojira and Arch Enemy.

The latest release contains 4 tracks, each as crushing as the next. First on the EP is Heavens Gate a song which from the off cuts straight in with a unique sound. The main riff for this song is unforgettable and the choice of both male and female vocals is incredibly impressive. Next up is Exculpate which starts in, I’ll say a slower manner but encapsulates a kind of madness whilst retaining its core quality. This song at just over the half way point transitions into a ridiculous breakdown which kicks up the pace and drives the song further on with a technical yet devastating riff.

Not to mention the solo in this song, absolutely mind blowing. Black Mirror is a more bass driven song and initially off of a first listen to me comes off as a song which has the potential to be insane live. This band is one I personally would love to see given the chance, this release is already looking very promising and it would be interesting to see just how well it is performed live.

Closing the EP is Scourge, yet again another absolutely destructive song. This is the kind of stuff mosh pits, wall of deaths and circle pits were made for. The blend between the vocals works very well particularly in this song along with the relentless guitar work. The entire band for this song are firing on all cylinders and it’s very impressive.

This band is one to look out for in future and certainly one to go see live see keep an eye out folks! *****
