UMC [Release date 10.03.17]
The Quo reissue campaign continues with a set of singles covering the years 1972-1979. We’ve already had a corresponding box set featuring that decade’s albums. This is the first of five limited editions covering a decade each (with the exception of two sets for the eighties).
The purchase of this collection may save you the trouble of trundling around record fairs and fingering through the dog-eared originals. All these tracks are repackaged in their original sleeves.
The familiarity of these titles will be comforting to those of a certain age and the whole venture is well presented with each box featuring an explanatory booklet.
For the more inquisitive, the B-sides of these releases may prove more interesting although of course they have all been available before. Quo were apt to release non-album tracks on the flip side, but they were always complementary, and worthy.
The only gripe here might be the fact that this isn’t a truly comprehensive selection: ‘Mean Girl’ and ‘Gerundula’ – from 1973 – are missing. It will, though, look nice on your shelf. ***1/2
