Album review: EZIO – Daylight Moon

EZIO - Daylight Moon

Jazzhaus [Release date 18.11.16]

From Cambridge, with eight studio albums, and four live albums to their name since 1990, Ezio have built up something of a cult following over their 26 year career (both in the UK and Europe), without ever quite garnering mainstream acceptance.

Perhaps because lead singer, songwriter, and guitarist Ezio Lunedei and his guitarist foil Mark “Booga” Fowell like to dabble in any variety of musical styles, but check out their Shepherds Bush Empire performance on YouTube (albeit from 1999) and you’ll see immediately what the buzz is about.

Daylight Moon finds the pair in an introspective mood hoping from contemplative blues rock to jazz, and any number of genres in between, in a manner that has hints of McCartney in his prime.  Again, it’s the interplay between the two that enthrals and this is another release that fan’s will cherish.

What sets the pair apart is hard to pinpoint, but from the whimsical ditty of ‘Hey Little Girl’, through the string infused ballad ‘Dirty Little Secret’, and the breezy ‘Been A Long Time Coming’, there’s a quality and ‘feel good’ factor that just has to be admired.  ***1/2
