EP review: BELLA McKENDREE – Waiting

BELLA McKENDREE - Waiting

Trellis Records [Release date 18.08.17]

The debut EP by Bella McKendree is produced Grammy Award-winning Producer Brett Shaw (Florence & The Machine, Daughter, Mark Ronson). The backing is sparse, a little piano and gentle loops/drums, to allow Bella’s singing to take centre stage.

The single ‘Grieve’ is a personal lyric, although something everyone who has been through the grieving process can relate to. ‘Baby Lets Fall’ features sublime vocal arrangements and a gloriously uplifting chorus.

‘Waiting’ does recall Tori Amos, with the haunting vocal and simple, yet effective piano accompaniment. ‘Don’t You Wanna Be Loved’ takes a more straight ahead path musically, one for daytime radio.

Impressive debut EP that bodes well for her future musical career. Bella McKendree has the songs and voice to succeed. ****
